The cross-fertilisation of cohesion policy and spatial planning policy brief was a spin-off work of the COMPASS research project (2018), commissioned by ESPON EU. The objective of the project was to provide an authoritative comparative report on changes in territorial governance and spatial planning systems in Europe from 2000 to 2016. Findings for 32 countries are based on data provided by ‘country experts’ with in-depth experience of the organisation and practice of spatial planning and EU policy, and four in-depth case studies on the relationship between cohesion policy and spatial planning on the priority issues of the Territorial Agenda 2020.
My work was to analyse and visualise the data gathered from the 32 countries through two detailed questionnaires. Data was transformed into maps and diagrams to draw a comparative analysis of territorial governance and spatial planning systems in Europe.
