Open space landscape infrastructure in Baix Llobregat

This proposal aims at structuring an green-blue-gray matrix along the Carretera Real, or Royal Road, together with the urban areas of four small towns of the Baix Llobregat in the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona, the farm land, and the existing ecological corridors in the area.

A mobility and urban renewal approach was combined with the environmental logic in the area, leveraging on existing blue and green infrastructure, such as the Llobregat river, its brooks and tributaries, the existing farmland and the open urban public space. The proposed green-blue-gray matrix connects two landscapes, represented by ‘El Garraf’ and ‘Collserola’ areas, and provides the basic infrastructure for resilient future urban transformation, including the redeveloping of industrial areas and new residential developments.

This academic work was developed together with Alberto Zaragoza and Christopher Tapia in the context of a Design Studio in the UPC university, in Barcelona, as part of the European Post-Master of Urbanism exchange year.
