Research by design on alternative on-demand mobility systems. Led by 1010au and commissioned by the Province East-Flanders, Atelier OVK, Belgium.
The Oost-Vlaams Kerngebied, a network of cities and municipalities around Ghent, expects a population increase by 15 to 25 percent by 2050. This research by design is part of the Atelier Oos-Vlaams Kerngebied (OVK) effort to expore how can we use this demographic growth as an opportunity to help shape the needed transitions in open space, accessibility and economy. Anders Mobiel demonstrates an innovative approach to mobility systems in the context of the Decree of Basic Accessibility, focusing on the short journeys and transportation systems on-demand. This research formulates possible actions for local governments.
My role in the research by design was to develop a series of GIS spatial analysis considering socio-economic, infrastructure and mobility data for four different mobility behaviours and profiles: ageing population accessing health care facilities, children going to school, shopping and pooling deliveries, and commuting flows that go through Merelbeke. All analyses included quantitative data to support decision making when comparing different mobility alternatives.
