Project on recycled plastics developed in UPM University in 2010. The work was developed under a scholarship granted by the Ministry of Education. The project was based on the work in a design studio at the architecture school of ETSA Madrid. Different material pieces, based on recycled plastic bags were developed and tested in the material lab.
The tests aimed at develop evidence for the use of recycled plastics as reliable construction materials and components. The experimentation on specific components didn’t end up in any certification, as all pieces were hand crafted. Nevertheless, a property sheet was developed, included all material tests and properties.
This work is already a bit outdated, as other projects like Precious Plastic have taken much further these ideas, but if you want to have a look at some of the ideas and potential designs behind it, you may have a look at the report that I made in 2010.
